Gasquet Train

I wish I had posted this last week, so I could seem prophetic. Looking at the Wimbledon draw and the early results, Richard Gasquet looked as if he might pose the most trouble to the Federer-Roddick side of the draw. In fact, he looked like the biggest threat to spoil a Fed v. A-Rod semi.

And lo! Gasquet finally lived up to his billing and pulled off an upset! Although he needed two tiebreaks and a fifth that went to 8-6 to pull it off. I feel for Andy--Wimbledon was a good chance for his to nab a slam. And he certainly put in the work this year. Unfortunately, Gasquet is both French (read: a flamboyant shotmaker, an ideal thing to be on grass) and something of a junior Fed (read: trouble for A-Rod).

So there's your dark-horse semifinalist, ladies and gents. Too bad he's probably thorougly exhausted and will have to play Mr. Number One, who has only dropped a set so far in the tournament, tomorrow.

Gasquet has some serious potential to be up there with the top talent. He is still young and obviously needs to develop a little more, but tons of potential.
